In the 19th Century, Molivos was a prominent town under the rule of the Turks. It included a Magistrate of Justice, a legal office and was enjoying a lively trade in the port. "BETTY'S RESTAURANT" was at that time, an original house built by a Turkish Pasha in 1880. By the 1920's the Turks had finally left the island and the new owner was a Greek lady who established the first hotel of Molivos. In her employ as a domestic servant, was a young deaf-mute called Dimitroula. She was a loyal and hardworking girl, and all secrets were safe with her. Any village gossip was avoided. Eventually the house was left to Dimitroula who lived a solitary life together with her many cats. Her neighbours, the Nassos family, fed Dimitroula her meals and looked in on her safety. Due to neglect the house slowly became a ruin. In 1999, Betty and Steve from the Nassos family saved this unique historical house giving it a total restoration to the original design. They have created a beautiful and relaxing 3-storey restaurant, imbued with true Greek ambience offering traditional family cooking and genuine hospitality.
